This Roswell, GA based artist's works reveal problems lingering today. The character named the "The Gingerblack Man" combines the "Sambo" image with the cunning intelligence of the "Gingerbread Man". Traditionally, the "Sambo" is a symbol stereotyping African Americans, which now has been transformed into an icon of healing and understanding. Mr. Hayes' goal is to spark meaningful reaction
through humor thus opening the viewer to thoughtful interpretation & reflection, rather than misunderstanding. The artist will be present at the exhibit's opening and will host a workshop for area students in October as part of the Arts-In-Education program series.
