Goombay! Headliners and Performers for 2004

Schedule of Events and Activities

Festival Map

The 22 nd Annual Goombay! Festival presents cultural arts, crafts, dance, cuisine and differing styles of Afro-Caribbean heritage. The 3-day event will showcase the best regional sounds of gospel, jazz, R&B, soul, reggae, and hip-hop as well as stilt-walkers, African dance and drum presentations, and a variety of activities aimed at children and families, senior citizens, and the general public--all celebrating grassroots ties to the local African American community. This year's festival will feature the popular R&B group, Barkays, as a headliner; jazz singer Stanley Baird; the Free Spirit African Dancers & Drummers; and a myriad of regional talent. Attendance is free and over 40,000 individuals are expected to attend.

The African-Caribbean style festival is brought to the Asheville Community with pleasure by the YMI Cultural Center, Asheville Parks and Recreation Department, North Carolina Arts Council, Community Arts Council of WNC and the Friends of the YMI Cultural Center.
