The YMICC completed its statewide initiative with the AADE in March 2004. To continue the momentum established by the residency work and to show the connection between traditional and modern African and African American dance, the YMICC will present the nationally renowned dance company EVIDENCE and their lead dancer/choreographer/artistic director Ron K. Brown . The residency will consist of a 2-week series of workshops, lecture demonstrations, and two public performances as part of the YMICC's Arts-In-Education series and in partnership with the Diana Wortham Theater and UNC-Asheville . Coordinated by YMI staff and implemented by Mr. Brown and EVIDENCE , the project will conclude with two professional public performances involving dance, poetry, jazz (with a tribute to Nina Simone) and a multitude of talented community and ensemble members who will perform a set piece choreographed by Mr. Brown . Over 30 individuals will participate in this residency as core members and over 2,000 students will be served through the array of activities offered by EVIDENCE.
